More than half of the workplaces now have their own dress code. In terms of workplace attire, today’s workplace is not as strict as it used to be. However, there are unspoken rules of what to wear and what not to wear. That is why it is important to dress right in a corporate and office environment. Here are 5 office dressing rules that will make you feel powerful and confident in your work atmosphere:
1. Unless you wear a uniform (where your clothes speak for themselves), do not wear clothes that give away what you do. Keep the curiosity alive by dressing smartly.
2. Make a conscious effort to dress and look differently from your colleagues. Observe the styles, colors, prints and patterns that your workmates wear and make sure you set yourself apart.
3. Try not to wear the office decor colors or the company logo on your clothes. Apart from black and white, subtle shades of brown, blue, green and Grey are acceptable workplace colors.
4. While it is acceptable to dress in traditional clothing occasionally, make sure that you do not overdo it. The better way is to try and look as universal as possible. Dressing in clothes that are globally accepted will make sure that you are known for your skills and talents.
5. If you have a uniform, make sure that you abide by the rules of the company. If you are allowed to make small tweaks to your look, you can try and look different from others.
